Knights Rolling with 3 Game Winning Streak
Starting off the season, the Knights had drop games to East Coast Spartans U18, a loss and a tie to Bridgton Academy. The Knights were trying to get a little momentum going into the second weekend of the season with a win against Northwood.
Entering the series of games against Northwood the Knights were trying to figure out how to turn the page quickly at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season. Following 3 close games the past weekend the Knights were set to match up against Northwood School, in Lake Placid, for a two-game series. Coach Vickers eluded to the experience that his team has with a majority of players returning. “I believe entering the new season our biggest strength will be the experience we have as a whole, but especially with in our core of defense and goaltending. We have a lot of players who contributed here last season.” Vickers continues, “Hopefully it will help the new and younger players adapt to the higher level of play quickly.”
On Friday night the Knights had controlled much of the game against Northwood but a series of penalties throughout the game had caused them to sustain any pressure late in the contest. Tied through the first two periods, the Knights ended losing 2-1 to Northwood in the first night of action. The 2nd day the team again had controlled much of the game and even managed a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period. Some penalties by the Knights late, in the game had caused Northwood to capitalize making the score of 3-3 after 3 periods of play. Overtime didn’t give prove to provide a winner either. So the game ended in a shootout with the Knights getting the victory. Coach Vickers on the first win of the season “We would have liked to be able to close the game out in regulation, but certainly happy for the team that we were able to win in a shootout.”
The following weekend the Knights traveled to Boston to play two games with the Middlesex Bears. The Knights ended up scoring goals late in both contests with the first game being 3-1 and second game having a score of 4-1. The Knights had contributions from throughout the lineup making it a very successful weekend. Coach Vickers on the weekend “ I really liked how our team played in both games this weekend. We played strong in all areas of the game and had lots of guys contributing in various ways.” The Knights have the next weekend off and will be back in action on Oct 28-29, in Stowe, VT for a two game series with Le Sommet Academy.
