Knights 2-2-1 in Last 5 Heading Into Playoffs

The Rice Memorial Prep hockey team has had a good stretch of games heading into the MPHL Playoffs (Feb. 16th-18th in Buffalo, NY). The 2-2-1 stretch started with a come from behind Tie vs. in state rival Vermont Academy.  Down 2-0 heading into the 3rd, the Knights got goals from Oliver Gignoux and Eetu Maki-Soini to tie the game in the 3rd period.  The Knights had a couple chances to end the game in regulation and OT but came out with the 2-2 Tie.  Rice got a strong performance from net minder Chris Foley w/33 Saves.

Up next for the Knights was a home series vs. the Middlesex Bears who came to Cairns arena on Saturday and Sunday. Saturdays game was a 4-2 victory for the Knights who this time got great goaltending from Nico Gamarra who did his part to help get the win.  On Sunday the Knights were a little unlucky finishing the weekend with a 2-1 loss to the Bears.

The final home games of the regular season for the Knights were vs. Bridgton Academy.  Game 1 on Saturday was Senior Night.  The game saw a lot of back-in-forth action.  With 10min remaining in the 3rd period, Freshman Bryson Martin bangs home a rebound to break the 0-0 Tie. PG Chris Foley came through again with a strong 29 save shutout to preserve the victory on Senior Night. In Sunday’s final home game of the 2017-2018 season turned out to be a high scoring affair with Bridgton Academy coming out on top of the Knights 7-5.

The last five games have proved to be a positive experience for the Knights heading into the MPHL Playoffs. The Knights have picked up some Wins against quality opponents and appear to have some momentum heading in to the first game vs. Shady Side Academy on Friday Feb. 16th in Buffalo, NY.  The Knights look to continue this solid play and finish the season strong.
