The Rice Memorial Prep Knights capped off the first half of their season with a 3-0 weekend in Newport, RI, capturing the St. George’s School Howard Invitational championship. The Knights swept the playing field, securing victories against Wyoming Seminary, St. George’s School, and Brewster Academy.
Rice opened tournament play Saturday afternoon against Wyoming Seminary, where they posted a 4-1 victory. The Knights found production up and down their lineup, as 8 different players recorded a point in the win. The second game of the day would see the Knights in a primetime matchup against the host St. George’s School. In a hard fought back-and-forth battle, the Knights would prevail by a score of 5-3. Tournament play concluded the next day as Rice scored 7 goals to beat a persistent Brewster Academy team, finishing the weekend undefeated and earning the title of tournament champions. Junior forward Julien Blouin (Lorraine, QC) was named tournament MVP after posting 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points in 3 games played.
The Rice Memorial Prep Knights enjoyed a steady flow of offensive production, accruing 16 goals for during the 3-game weekend. They finish the first half of the season with a 17-11-1 record and will return to action January 4th for an MPHL league weekend hosted by Bishop’s College in Sherbrooke, QC.
