Kovacs to Join Coaching Staff

September 6, 2017

Rice Memorial Prep is excited to announce the hiring of, Ross Kovacs (Dickinson, ND), as the new Assistant Coach for the 2017-2018 season.

“A few things sold me on Ross, when going through the interview and hiring process of multiple qualified candidates. First, was his passion to (coach) work with people.  Secondly, the fact that every coach that he’s played for, did nothing but talk about his character and work ethic.  One thing I have learned, and that is you can never have too many quality people involved in a school/prep program such as this.” Coach Kovacs brings a variety of experiences to the table.  A recent graduate of IMG_4208Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota (NCAA Div. III), this Exercise and Physiology Major has played at the Tier 1 AAA Level (Russell Stovers), was Drafted in the NAHL, played in the CCHL, and had a solid college career playing defense at the NCAA Div. III level.

Coach Kovacs will take over the reigns working with Rice Memorial Prep’s defensemen, which returns 4 key players to it’s blue line.  “I am very excited to be a part of Rice Memorial, and the Prep hockey program.  I look forward to working with Coach Vickers, and hope to share my knowledge and experiences with our student-athletes to help them achieve their academic and athletic goals,” said Kovacs.

Ultimately, Ross’s hiring comes following the resignation of former Assistant Coach, Ben Pearl.  “We respect the fact that Ben wanted to follow his degree, and pursue an opportunity in the business world and we wish him the best.  With that being said, we are very excited about this coming season and welcoming Ross to the program,” said Coach Vickers.

Please join the Rice Community and Prep hockey program in welcoming Ross Kovacs to the Rice Prep Coaching Staff.
