Rice Memorial Prep and Head Coach, Dennis Vickers are adding a familiar name to the coaching staff for the 2016-2017 season. Coach Vickers and the Rice Memorial Prep hockey team is excited to announce that, Ben Pearl (Essex, VT) will be stepping in as the new assistant coach for the 2016-2017 season.
“You don’t have to look to far on Ben’s resume to see the leadership qualities he possesses,” says Coach Vickers. Ben Pearl has been a Captain and leader at every stop along his hockey journey. Starting at Essex High School, Ben was a Captain and Mr. Hockey for the state of Vermont. Following that, he was a Captain at Bridgton Academy, and most recently a Captain at the University of New England, not to mention a member of their Student Advisory Committee. Ben’s former coach at UNE, Kevin Swallow, had this to say, “Ben is a great kid, and was a great leader for us at UNE. I fully expect him to thrive as an Assistant Coach with the Rice Memorial Prep program!” Tallying 33 points in 56 games at UNE, Pearl brings not only leadership qualities to the Rice Memorial bench, but will work closely with the forwards.
Ultimately, Ben’s hiring comes following the unfortunate resignation of former Assistant Coach, Jack Semler. “It’s always tough when you lose a coach like Jack,” said Vickers. “Jack had experience playing and coaching at the Div. 1 level, and he enjoyed being around the kids and the game of hockey. However, with his health concerns last year, we are hoping he can stay healthy long term, but will always be part of the Rice Memorial Prep family.”
Please join the Rice Memorial Prep team and Rice Community in welcoming Ben Pearl to the Rice Prep Coaching Staff.
