The Rice Girls’ Prep hockey team understands how to compete in playoff hockey. They train and work hard all year toward being the best they can be at the end of the season when it counts the most. The Knights performance 2017 NAPHA playoff and the 2017 USAH Tier I New England District Championships yet again proved that point.
Three overtime wins in the NAPHA playoff and after dropping their 1st game in the NE playoffs, Rice gave two strong Ct teams all they could handle. The second game of Districts was against the MidFairfield Stars. They are ranked 8th in the Nation for Tier I 19u teams. Rice scored first in the game and held a 1-0 lead for half the game. MidFairfield tied the game and the second period ended in a 1-1 tie. MidFairfield scored in the third period for the 2-1 win. They went on to win the NE Championship beating the Northern Cyclones 8-2. A much younger Rice team gave MidFairfield their toughest match of the tournament. The final game of the weekend Rice took on another older, more experienced team, the Ct Jr. Eagles. Rice finished their season with an impressive 2-1 win over the Eagles.
